Liuwa has been a protected area under the custodianship of local tribes since the 19th century through today. This expansive area is characterised by vast, marshy grasslands in the wet season, drying to savannah with endless clear skies at other times of the year.
Liuwa Plain us home to the second largest wildebeest migration on earth. In contrast to East Africa, here the spectacle of over 30,000 antelopes, sometimes being pursued by large predators, can be witnessed in relative privacy.
Powerdown’s partner collaborates with the local community to operate the only lodge within the park’s boundaries. The lodge’s capacious, exceptionally comfortable chalets have stunning views over the plains. An overnight encampment under the spectacular night skies is a highly recommended excursion for the more adventurous joining us on safari here.
